Applications and Scholarships
Full tuition for the Tennessee Young Writers' Workshop is $650. This includes all costs for the entire week: food and lodging, all class materials and instruction, any field trip expenses, and a workshop T-shirt.
Tuition for local day students is $450 and includes all classes, field trips, materials and instruction, workshop T-shirt, and lunch and dinner meals.
To apply, please send in:
- completed registration form (PDF, 119kB; requires the free Adobe® Reader®),
- one writing sample,
- $150 deposit, which will be applied to full tuition.
The writing sample may be a poem, short story, play, fragment of a play, or a fiction or non-fiction piece. All fees may be paid by check (made out to Humanities Tennessee), money order, MasterCard or Visa.
All tuition payments must be received by June 30. You will be notified of whether or not the applicant has been accepted as soon as possible following receipt of all application materials. Should applicant not be accepted into the program, the deposit will be refunded.
Scholarships
To qualify for a scholarship, you must demonstrate both financial need and a sincere interest in writing. Scholarships are available to Tennessee students only. To apply for a scholarship, send:
- completed registration form (PDF, 119kB; requires the free Adobe® Reader®),
- one writing sample,
- a letter of recommendation from an English teacher detailing your qualifications,
- one complete copy of primary parent/guardian's most recent 1040 statement submitted to the IRS.
Scholarship applicants are not required to send a deposit. The postmark deadline for all scholarship applications is May 15. You will be notified of whether or not you've been accepted by June 18. Scholarship assistance ranges from $100 to full tuition.
