Sponsor a Young Writer

Almost half of the students attending the Tennessee Young Writers' Workshop receive some form of financial assistance through the generosity of Humanities Tennessee donors.

You can sponsor a young writer in a number of ways:

  • Donate $35 or more to Humanities Tennessee and let us know that you want your gift to support the Tennessee Young Writers' Workshop scholarship fund.
  • $325 (only $27/month) will provide a half scholarship to a deserving student.
  • A donation of $650 (only $54/month) will provide a full tuition scholarship for a student who would otherwise be unable to attend the workshop.

Help a budding young writer get the training he or she needs — sponsor a young writer today.

Donate to the Inez Parrish Osborn Scholarship Fund. In 2006 Humanities Tennessee board member Michael Osborn established the Inez Parrish Osborn Scholarship Fund to enable aspiring young writers in need to attend the Tennessee Young Writers' Workshop (TYWW). Each year Humanities Tennessee chooses a student from among the regular scholarship applicants to receive the honor of being the "Osborn Scholar" for that year. The student must show promise and potential as a writer and demonstrate an appropriate amount of financial need. When possible, the student should be one with only one or two years of eligibility to attend the workshop left.

Please help the Inez Parrish Osborn Scholarship Endowment grow and support Tennessee's next generation of talented writers. Nearly half of the students attending the Tennessee Young Writers' Workshop receive some form of financial assistance through the generosity of Humanities Tennessee donors and the Scholarship Fund.

Inez Parrish Osborn Scholars

  • 2009 - Charlie Miller
  • 2008 - LaTasha Sanders, Chattanooga
  • 2007 - Nate Cannon, Seymore
  • 2006 - Melanie Williams, Oak Ridge

Dr. Osborn established the fund to honor his now late mother. He believes she would have benefited from a program like the TYWW, had it been an option for her as a young person. He learned late in her life that she enjoyed writing, kept numerous journals and aspired to be a writer at one time.

To contribute, please contact Lacey Cook at 615-770-0006, ext. 19, or email lacey@humanitiestennessee.org. Your gift is greatly appreciated and will have a lasting impact on each recipient. You are opening doors for budding writers!
