East Tennessee Historical Society

Grant Amount: $7,620

The ETHS Suffrage Showdown virtual project created teaching materials and an online exhibit featuring the local stories of woman suffrage from multiple perspectives. The curricula was launched via Padlet, and the exhibit via WordPress. The East Tennessee Historical Society welcomed Carole Bucy, professor of history at Volunteer State Community College and honorary Davidson County Historian, to examine the political awakening of East Tennessee women and their influence on public policies related to the needs of women and children, leading to Tennessee’s role in the successful passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920.
