Give Today, Support Tomorrow

Your donations help us continue to engage in the stories of the past and present to build a better future for Tennesseans. Contributions make the Southern Festival of Books possible and ensure it remains a free event for the community. Individual gifts, foundation grants, and corporate sponsorships help connect communities through shared stories and allow us all to build a better future for all Tennesseans.

You may choose to make a one-time gift or set up a sustaining, monthly gift through automatic payments by credit or debit card. Click the button below to make a secure donation through Click & Pledge. Scroll down for additional giving opportunities.

Thank you for supporting public humanities programming in Tennessee!

DOUBLE TIME! DONATE NOW AND YOUR GIFT WILL BE MATCHED!

We are grateful to the Mellon Foundation and the Federation of State Humanities Councils for their vital commitments to emergency funding for all the state and jurisdictional humanities councils. In addition to immediate funding, the Mellon Foundation has issued challenge grants of up to $50,000 for Humanities Tennessee and every other council across the US to encourage and empower local funders, individual donors, and others to donate. Help us meet this match and plan for our future by donating.

Employer Matching Gifts

Your company may have a program where they match the gifts employees make to nonprofit organizations. Through corporate gift matching, the impact of your gift is doubled. Check with your company about their policies. Typically, the company will have you complete a request showing proof of your donation and then they will complete the match. Check with your employer for details about their criteria.

Please contact Sandy Obodzinski, Development & Communications Director at (615) 933-5730 or Sandy@humtn.org.

Sponsorship opportunities exist for current programs and the annual Authors in the Round dinner, held in October in conjunction with the Southern Festival of Books..

Stock Gifts

Donating gifts of stock rather than cash may have a positive financial impact for both you and Humanities Tennessee. There are a multitude of possible tax advantages of making a stock gift. We advise that you talk with your broker first. Then contact us with any questions or to initiate a transfer.

IRA Distributions & Giving During Retirement

Individuals 70 1/2 years of age or older can make a tax-free Qualified Charitable Distribution from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA) directly to Humanities Tennessee. Another consideration: starting at age 73 the IRS mandates IRA owners to take annual income withdrawals, known as Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs). Considering both or either of these options for your philanthropic giving may provide tax savings for you. Again, we advise that you talk with your financial advisor and/or tax advisor to determine your best options.

Tribute Gifts

If you would like to honor someone when making your gift, there is space provided on the online giving form to indicate who should be recognized, who should be informed of the gift, and any other pertinent details.

Planned Gifts

With the launch of Humanities Tennessee’s 50th anniversary in 2023, we are also embarking on a formal planned giving program. This program gives donors the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Tennesseans for years to come by providing charitable giving through an estate plan or will. These legacy gifts are designated for HT programs and the long-term sustainability of the organization. Imagine a gift that supports the Southern Festival of Books for the next 35 years! Or perhaps, a gift that allows local history projects to thrive, freelance writers to hone their craft, or researchers to delve into untold stories. Our team will work with you, and your financial and legal advisors to craft a giving plan that meets your legacy goals.
